Role title: Audio Processing DSP Engineer

Department: Modem Software
Reporting to: Modem Software Development Manager

ROLE/DESCRIPTION:

This key engineering role is a real opportunity for the right candidate to be part of building and growing Europe’s most exciting new fabless semiconductor business in cellular wireless. The successful candidate will be part of the core modem software development team, and be based in Bristol, UK.

As the ideal candidate you will have significant experience in designing and developing acoustic echo and noise control algorithms for real-time applications. A good background in speech coding algorithms and their integration into 2G/3G terminals equipment would be advantageous.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:

  • A BEng/BSc degree with a 2:1 or higher in an engineering related discipline.

No. of year’s experience:

  • You will need a minimum of 5 years experience in audio processing for mobile devices.
  • 5-10 embedded systems, >5 audio processing for mobile devices.

Skills Required:

Essential:

  • Good knowledge of audio processing algorithms (such as acoustic echo cancellation and control techniques, speech enhancement etc.) as well as practical implementation issues for terminals.
  • Experience in DSP optimisation and integration of speech codecs in 2G-3G terminals (such as FR, HR, EFR, NB-AMR, WB-AMR etc.)
  • Assembly language programming for a variety of DSP architecture.
  • Scheduling/OS issues and optimisation of memory use
  • Product development experience with a major terminal vendor company (e.g. Nokia, Siemens, NEC, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Alcatel, Motorola, Ericsson etc).

Desirable:

  • Understanding of a variety of cellular air-interfaces (such as cdma2000, WCDMA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, IS-136, AMPS, TACS etc).
  • Understanding of the interface between a protocol stack, physical layer and speech codec.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & implementation of audio processing algorithms for modem infrastructure
  • Maintenance of system code & audio sub-systems for required functionality/performance within entire platform
  • Contributing to new designs/implementations for new technology developments
  • Providing ‘core’ expertise/support to customer engineering group and the marketing department
  • Providing ‘core’ expertise to the validation teams as the system is tested for GCF, IOT, field test approval
